Documents Required for Applying to Employ a Helper
Employer’s Proof of Identity
-
Copy of Hong Kong Identity Card; or
-
If the employer is not a Hong Kong permanent resident, please provide:
-
A copy of the passport personal particulars page; and
-
A copy of the most recent valid entry label / visa.

Employer’s Financial Proof. In general, for each foreign domestic helper employed, the employer’s household income should be no less than HK$15,000 per month. The employer may provide any one of the following:

The latest tax demand note; or
-
Bank statements showing salary autopay records for the past 3 months; or
-
Company's payslips/salary statements for the past 3 months; or
-
Proof of assets, such as fixed deposit / savings account statements for the past 6 months, showing a balance of not less than HK$350,000.
Employer’s Proof of Residential Address

Please provide proof of address that matches the address stated in the employment contract. Examples include:The latest rates demand note; or Utility bills issued within the past 3 months, such as water, electricity, telephone or other utility bills.

If the document is not under the employer’s name, please provide proof of relationship, such as: Marriage certificate; Birth certificate;
Tenancy agreement; or Other relevant supporting documents. -
If the address is a property under the Housing Department or Hong Kong Housing Society, please provide:
-
A consent letter from the Housing Department / Hong Kong Housing Society approving the helper to reside in the unit; and
-
Copies of pages 1 to 4 of the tenancy agreement, showing the address and household member details.

If Replacing an Existing Helper

Please provide the existing helper’s resignation letter / Notice of Termination of Employment Contract (ID407E), stating the expiry date or termination date of the contract.
If Employing an Additional Helper

Please prepare a brief explanation letter stating the reason why the family needs to employ an additional foreign domestic helper.
If the Helper Is Required to Perform Driving Duties
General household duties do not include driving any type of vehicle.
If the employer requires the helper to perform driving duties, a separate application must be made with sufficient justification. The employer must also provide the following additional documents:

Vehicle registration document; and

Valid vehicle licence; and
-
An explanation letter stating the reason why the helper is required to perform driving duties; and
-
If the vehicle is registered under a company’s name, a company letter confirming that the vehicle is for the personal and family use of the employer.
